BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Governor Bob Riley has signed into a law a measure that allows civil fines for operators of illegal or substandard boarding homes in Jefferson County.

Dirty-faced rescuer brought good news
A MINE rescue worker delivered the news to Brant Webb's family that the two missing miners had been found within minutes last night. The rescuer, covered in dirt, went straight from the mine to Mr Webb's Beauty Point home where his family had gathered together.
